Natasha's background and training cause Natasha to come off as reserved, a woman who likes to keep a cool head and perspective in any given situation. She can be counted on to be the one to keep a level head no matter what. This is especially evident in Age of Ultron when the rest of her team let their emotions get the better of them, she cut right to the chase and got them all back on track. She was trained to view emotions as flaws and weaknesses so she strives to not let them cloud her judgment. She may not show her emotions but that by no means, means that she doesn't feel things.

Natasha is pragmatic. She looks at any given problem or crisis from all angles; compromising when necessary but Natasha lives by the motto the ends justify the means. Natasha pushing Bruce off a cliff in Age of Ultron proves that she will do anything to get what she thinks is the most desirable outcome, no matter the personal cost. In her mind, she thought that she could get the Hulk to return to them and when The Hulk cut her off, it was the first time that she showed some emotion, letting her shock come through.

Natasha often sacrifices her own personal happiness and emotional well=being for the sake of the mission. If she has to make a choice, the mission will always come first every time.

In the right situations, surrounded by allies, Natasha's attitude borders on the sarcastic and teasing. She ribs Steve and Clint most notably, though there's a certain degree of sarcastic banter between herself and Tony, Thor, and Bruce as well. She prioritizes her mission when there is one, but that doesn't prevent her from taking a breather to appreciate a level of comfortable teamwork with those she best identifies with. On the other hand, she'll also be the one to reiterate the importance of the mission and yank them back on track.

She uses humor to deflect when faced with grim situations rather than deal with anything she might be feeling. Natasha is strategic in how she deploys her emotions. when she chooses to put them out there. It is often in the form of emotional manipulation, like when she is trying to get information from Loki, or emotional reciprocity, like when she is trying to connect with Bruce. Natasha hasn't quite got the balance down between soldier and woman but she is trying. She is likely to play her emotions off as fake or a trick of the light, but her emotions are definitely real. Natasha feels things deeply, she just doesn't let it show.

Despite her cool, business-like facade, Natasha cares deeply for her friends. She is not one to easily trust but when she does, she will do anything in her power to be worthy of the faith that her friends, really her family place in her. Natasha believes that she has to make up for all of her past indiscretions, by trying to be a better person, a person that the Avengers believe that she has the potential to be.

"I used to have nothing. And then I got this. This job. This family. And I was better because of it. And even though they're gone... I'm still trying to be better." This quote sums up her motivation for everything she has done since we first met her in Iron Man II, Natasha wasn't supposed to have a life or a family, but somehow one fell into her lap and she will do whatever it takes to get them back, even dying.

The events of Infinity War and Endgame have brought about intensity and brittleness to Natasha's personality that wasn't there earlier. She has taken up the mantle of the entire Avengers and has more responsibility in an effort to hide and cope with her grief. She is far less patient than she was post-snap and more prone to micromanage.
